Maria Isabel de Pina
MARIA ISABEL DE PINA
Consultant
Isabel co-founded the firm PINA AMENDOEIRA in 2004, and served as its managing partner and head of the real estate department until the end of 2020. Since then she is taking some time out to work on a personal project involving research on cultural and legal issues related to population ageing which she believes is poised to cause a most significant social transformation in this century.
Since starting practising in 1985, Isabel has developed extensive private law experience, with a special focus on the area of real estate investment. In this field, she has established innovative approaches to the definition of property rights among parties who often have quite diverse interests, resulting in greater harmony in the enjoyment and protection of those property rights. Her legal skills in this area have been of tremendous value to clients establishing condominiums, co-tenancies, joint ventures, and other property investments.
In the real estate field, Isabel is experienced in matters of particular relevance to the tourism industry, including those related to the establishment and operation of hotels, hospitality venues and tourist attractions of various kinds. Recently she has developed compliance agreements and procedures to address the new legal regime of Local Lodging/Holiday Rentals (Alojamento Local), harmonizing the relationships between property owners, agents, service providers and tourists.
Prior to founding PINA AMENDOEIRA, Isabel was a partner of the firms Pina Mota Campos and Pina Gouveia Fernandes and Freitas e Costa. From 1983 to 1984 she completed her traineeship, and from1982 to 1983 she completed a special internship in the Department of Legal Counsel of the Banco Português do Atlântico (now part of Millennium BCP).
Isabel has taken a leading role in bringing other lawyers together. In 1989 she was one of the founders of Lawyers Associated Worldwide (LAW), an international association of lawyers with its head office in Switzerland. In 2002 she was a founder of the APORT joint venture, with offices in Lisbon, Porto and the Algarve.
Of late, Isabel has been dedicating herself to investigating and applying the law pertaining to succession issues as well as the anticipation and provision for future situations of eventual loss of the autonomy and decision-making capacity usually caused by ageing and related illnesses.
